NETBALL- TUESDAY 26TH

Mixed Results for CHS*

On Tuesday 26th February year 7, 8, 10 and 11 entertained Holmes Chapel on a cold afternoon.
CHS’ year 10 pressed from the very start but couldn’t find an early breakthrough despite creating chances. Those chances looked to haunt CHS as Holmes Chapel led 3-0 at the break. Just after half-time Holmes Chapel made it 4-0. However, Louise Forster and CHS responded and after Forster’s attempt hit the rim she quickly responded to make it 4-1 with her rebound. Holmes Chapel then retained their four goal lead shortly after and despite CHS dominating for most of the second half they couldn’t convert their chances into goals which told the story of year 10’s afternoon. It finished Holmes Chapel 4, CHS 1.

7A were involved in a 12 goal thriller on the same night. CHS took an early lead but Holmes Chapel then scored an equaliser before CHS scored two more goals to make it 3-1. Holmes Chapel then pulled one back but CHS added a fourth. Holmes Chapel then scored another two goals to make it level-pegging at half-time. 4-4. Shortly after the break CHS found themselves losing 6-5. In the last few minutes CHS equalised with their six and resulted in them earning a draw against Holmes Chapel.

TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION- AND THE WINNER IS...........

Table Tennis Competition- AND THE WINNER IS........

The Table Tennis Competition at CHS has nearly reached an end as well as the battle to become the Congleton High School Table Tennis Champion. The winner would either be James Garside or Mr de Souza.

The winner of the first game would be who could calm their nerves the quickest in front of the gathered crowds. The answer was Mr de Souza who took the first game 11-8. Jame Garside knew that to become the CHS champion he would first have to become from behind and second would have to win the next match. Cosgrove gave a valiant effort and pushed the second game right to the wire and at sometimes had Mr de Souza on the back foot but Cosgrove couldn't beat the in-form, Mr de Souza who took the second game 12-10. Which saw Mr de Souza crowned as the Congleton High School Table Tennis Champion .

And I am sure Mr de Souza will be hoping to defend his title next year!

TABLE TENNIS EXTREMLEY POPULAR AT CHS

Table Tennis Extremely Popular at CHS

Since the beginning of the school year staff and students at Congleton High School have been running a hugely successful lunch time table tennis club, which now meets four days a week. Students from all ages attend and many of them are currently competing against other students and staff in a whole school tournament.
Riding high on this popularity, three talented students were put forward to represent the school, competing in the Cheshire Schools Table Tennis Association Championships at the Halton Regional Table Tennis Centre (part of the Stobart Rugby League Stadium) in Widnes on Thursday 7 February. James Hodgetts was entered in the under 16s and Elliot Darmon and Jamie Casey in the under 13s.
In unfamiliar surroundings and a hall large enough to accommodate 18 table tennis tables, all three players performed really well. Elliot had the toughest of groups, but he competed in all three of his games playing some great rallies and shots. James and Jamie showed that all the practice at school was paying off, both winning their groups and advancing through into the knockout stages of the competition. The knockout games were tightly matched, and played to a very high standard. James and Jamie played some more great rallies, but unfortunately both narrowly went out 2 games to 1. Congratulations to all three students.
